Hi Sophie,

Could you please describe actual examples of the sort of activities that your job involves on a daily basis?

Graduate Trainee - Audit Graduate Programme, KPMG UK

This is always a tough question because it is so varied!

You are nearly always working in a team with a few other people. You'll be meeting with the client and talking through their processes - for example, for a shop you might look at the process they go through when buying in stock, tracing the process from the order, how they record it on their accounting system, to the goods received note.

Then you would be doing a lot of the testing for the overall audit - looking at cash, testing for unrecorded liabilities etc etc. You request data from the client and analyse it, making sure it is logical and follows accounting best practice, doing analytical reviews and so on.

I've helped to write reports - telling organisations what we have found when investigating their processes, highlighting areas for improvement and discussing what is going well based on our testing of those processes.

I hope that gives you a bit more of an insight!
